Napsa Stars won their only ABSA (former Barclays) Cup championship after beating Power Dynamos 4-2 on post-match penalties at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on 17th November, 2012.

The game was decided on penalties after ending 4-4 in extra-time in a dramatic 120 minutes of end-to-end action.

Aba Yellow took the lead in the 9th minute through striker Graven Chitalu’s headed goal with Napsa failing to get level midway through the first half when Mike Silyawve’s penalty was pushed away by former Power goalkeeper Joshua Titima.

The Pensioners made it 1-1 after Chabusha Malumani headed in the equaliser in the 44th minute to go 1-1 into the break.

Chitalu grabbed his brace in the 82nd minute before Napsa Star’s defender Vincent Mangamu scored the equaliser into added-on time. Full-time 2-2 it was.

Napsa Stars took the lead for the first time when Spencer Ngalande scored with just a minute played into extra time but Emmanuel Chimpinde put Power back on level terms four minutes later.

Power regained the lead from the penalty spot through Felix Nyaende while Napsa Star’s draw level through Ngalande who completed his brace and ensured the match went to penalties.

In the shootouts, Power Dynamos midfielder Thomas Nyirenda put his penalty well over the bar and Simon Bwalya’s shot was saved and Napsa were crowned 2012 Barclays Cup champions.
