"We are not relaxing," - Numba Mumamba

ZESCO United coach Numba Mumamba described Sunday’s victory over Zanaco Football Club as significant in the club’s title pursuit.

In an interview with the club’s media, Mumamba said the game was difficult for his side in the first half because they gave Zanaco players a lot of room to play their game which resulted in the Ndola side conceding a goal.

This is an important win on our part because we really needed this win so that we can open up a seven point lead at the top of the league. The game was difficult for us in the first half because we gave Zanaco players a lot of room to play their game. This resulted in us conceding a goal,” he said.

Mumamba expressed happiness with his team’s ability to recover when they went a goal down.

“They showed very good team spirit especially when they went a goal down. We chatted with them at half-time which made a big difference resulting in us scoring two goals in the second half. This is the kind of team spirit we expect from a team like ZESCO United.”

The ZESCO United gaffer has already shifted his focus to Saturday’s clash against Green Buffaloes scheduled for Sunset Stadium.

He says the next five games will be very important especially if Zesco can collect a minimum of 12 points which will put them in a better position to win the title Super League.

“The next game against Green Buffaloes is very crucial. In fact the next five games will be very important especially if we can collect a minimum of 12 points. We will be in better position to win the title.”

Mumamba has further warned his players not to get carried away with Sunday’s victory.

“We are not relaxing because there is still a lot of work to be done. This is the time we need to double our work. The league is very tight consequently we have been talking to the players not to relax,” he said.

ZESCO United have opened a seven-point gap at the top of the FAZ/MTN Super League table following their crucial 2-1 home victory against second placed Zanaco Football Club in a game played at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium on Sunday.

The former league champions have mounted an impressive run of form winning six league matches continuously with Zanaco being the latest victims of their prowess.

Goals from Adrian Chama, and Simon Silwimba ensured that the Ndola based league giants maintained their authority at the summit of the league table.

Victory against the bankers means that ZESCO United have 43 points from 21 games while second placed Zanaco have 36 points from 21 games.
